Hey there, I’m Brittany, the owner of Sand and Silk, a mother, a wife, and an eager entrepreneur who wants to help other entrepreneurs grow and scale. As a newbie in the web design space, I wanted to share a little about myself briefly.

I decided to take the leap and do something about my passion – in my mid 30s, but it’s never too late. Life is too short to live for other people, right? So here I am, a full-time project manager in construction by day and a web designer at night (or whenever I find free time).
Being a mom of two young daughters, a wife, and a resident in the 2nd most expensive state in the United States – Hawaii – the motivation to start my own business was stronger than ever.
Why start a new business in my mid-30s?
I didn’t learn coding from a class; MySpace, thanks to Tom, was my teacher. If you’re Gen Z, it’s noteworthy that MySpace was the social platform Millennials used before TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
Learning to use the marquee tool and add a background image was essential for standing out. Coding was integral to this process. That’s when I found my passion for the artsy aspect of the online space.
Creating digital art has become an addiction for me. I’ve seen the evolution of web design over the past two decades, from Dreamweaver to WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, Shopify, Framer, and now Showit.
Even though it can be simple for anyone to design their website in two minutes – thanks to AI. Despite the widespread access to these tools and the high number of web designers, there is still ample business available for web designers.
After graduating high school in 2007, I aspired to pursue web design. Finally, a couple of thousand dollars and a few online courses later, I am ready to announce to the world, “I’m here, let me design your website for your business”.
Web design as my business
I see a website as a business tool, not a showcase to show your work. Think of a website as a business tool, whether it’s to help people find information faster so you don’t have to answer the phone as much or look at it as a way to get your name out there.
When I found Showit, I fell in love at first sight. The platform’s interface is extremely user-friendly and ensures a fast turnover.
How I chose “Sand and Silk”
The name Sand and Silk showcases the roughness and the elegance of life. Similar to the websites I provide, which are clean, minimal, beachy, and classy.
Trust me, it took a lot of time to find the perfect name. In the beginning of my journey, I wanted to incorprate my first name in the business – but I wanted to separate my self from the name, just because I felt like this business may be more than just in me in this business venture.
I sincerely hope that as you explore the diverse range I have here at Sand and Silk, you’ll discover a style that not only resonates with your aesthetic but also has the potential to infuse your business with a fresh burst of vitality.
My designs are meticulously curated with a keen focus on quality, elegance, and a distinctive flair that sets them apart. I believe the right style has the power to transform a business, making it more appealing and inviting to customers. So dive in, explore, and find that perfect style that will bring your business to life and elevate it to new heights.
What can Sand and Silk do for you?
There are two services available, as time progresses, I plan to offer more but for now, I have ‘Website in a Day and ‘Website in a Week’. These services are for business owners who want a quick and efficient website.
A Website in a Day service is a semi-customizable website where we will utilize templates to streamline the tasks to save time and money. We will meet and prep all material prior to the special day so that the design day is strictly just for design, and review and the website will be handed over to you before dinner time.
A Website in a Week service is a bit more customizable because there will be more time allotted for this service, but not completely customizable. The timeline for this service will be 7 days.
Since I live in the beautiful State of Hawaii, my timezone is strictly HST. Although I have a full-time day job, my working hours are in the evenings and on the weekends.
I love to streamline my work, therefore the process will be simple and straightforward.
